SUGGESTIONS FOR PLANTING AND CULTIVATING:
Plant from October until May, in a sunny and open site (with at least a few hours of sun each day) and not too close to trees (except lanscape-type rose bushes).HOW:
- Cut off a few centimetres from the roots and branches.
- Remove any broken parts.
- Dig a hole sufficiently large and deep to allow the roots to be well spread.
- Plant the rose bush, always keeping its grafting point about 2 cm above ground level.
- Pack down the loose soil around the bush to remove air from around the roots.
- Water the plants in thoroughly.
- Planting distances:
50 cm. between plants for large flower rose bushes and cluster flower rose bushes
150 cm. for climbers.
100 to 150 cm. for shrub roses and ground-cover roses according to the species.
20-30 cm. for miniature roses.
For climbers planted against a wall, leave a distance of 20 cm. minimum between the wall and the rose bush.
When planting in pots or containers, ensure these have adequate drainage holes.
THEN:
- Water regularly. In pots or containers, this should be done on a daily basis.
- Remove all withered flowers in order to increase blooming.
- Apply a fertilizer after pruning and in July.
- Pruning: every year from the second year on (between December and March according to the geographic area) for large flower, climbers and cluster flower rose bushes (shrub/landscape rose bushes do not need to be pruned unless they become too big), remove the dry branches and use supports such as lattices and arbours on which to train the branches as they grow.
For miniatures trim the branches and remove the brushwood.
